Follow us @PWKAcademyLib this year to keep up to date with all the goings on in the library! Be the first to find out about new books, activities, author visits and more!
We made an astounding £754 at our HALF PRICE book fair this year! Thanks to all staff, pupils and parents who helped us smash our target. This meant we could purchase over £70 worth of books for our school library. They will be hitting our shelves shortly! As we were so successful with our fair we will now be able to offer two HALF PRICE book fairs a year. Watch this space for details of the next bargain book bonanza!
It has been an amazing and rewarding week.
We might have piled up, too many sweets and food circulating around the library and the school!
Here is a taster of all the events we promoted around the school for Book Week Scotland!
Unfortunately, there is no way for you to feel the happiness of the week but you can ask our gluttonous readers!
From next week we are also starting a new club: MAKE A BOOK TRAILER. And we are going to enter the best trailers to the Scottish Book Trust competition!
You are wondering what a book trailer is? Go to the bottom of this post to see one!!!
Book week Scotland is NEXT WEEK!
Here is a list of activities that will take place in various departments:
The Library is even busier than usual!
First of all, we will decorate the whole room as a famous literary factory packed full of all things sweet. Can you guess what it will be?
We also organised a literary staff bake off: everybody will be baking their favourite cake inspired by a book they read and liked, talking about it with other staff members during an extended lunch break (Woohoo! and of course there will be a tasting session! and it will be Friday!).
S1-S2 pupils are also participating in a "Golden Ticket" raffle for which they can win fabulous (edible) prizes.
And we are also decorating some of the teachers doors with book themed adornments, thanks to some very dedicated library helpers from S1 and S2! And probably even more going on! But really, this is a blog, not a book!
Stay tuned for more pictures and info on the events!
Book Week Scotland is coming Next week!
Here are some activities promoted by the Scottish Book Trust:
Vote your favourite song based on a book or poem
The link with the shortlisted songs is here, and there is also a playlist on Spotify! And here is some extra info on the reasons behind those choices!
There are many events going on: there is also an auction for an autographed first edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets opened today (if you want to take part, here is the auction page!) A growing collection of Nourished themed stories, some of them in Gaelic, an online Virtual Festival and events in all libraries around Scotland, conveniently gathered in this list.
From 20 November the school is promoting mental health awareness in the whole school.
There will be various workshops organised throughout the week: a talk from NHS on mental health on Thursday, a talk on how to use expressive arts to cope with stress and difficult situations; from stress and relaxation sessions brought by Ayr Action for Mental Health Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to the "how to bounce back" from bad experiences.
There will also be different stalls each day:
South-Ayrshire libraries have already implemented "Shelf Help" services for young people: students can find books specifically tailored for them with information, advice and personal stories about dealing with difficult situations.
You can find more information here.
This is going to be a very formative event for all the students and it will have a positive impact on pupils across their learning.
The library is participating to Anti-bullying awareness week.
A part from promoting some of the books in our collection on the subject, we are also presenting an interesting video regarding a victim of bullying in some third year classes (Here is the link).
You can also find a list of books on this week theme on GoodReads.
The library invites everyone to think carefully about the consequences of our actions in other people lives and reminds that all staff is always here to help in case you need any hand.
