All S2 pupils have been invited to take part in Readathon. They have now all set their reading targets and made a start. This is for a great cause and the money raised can really make a difference to young people in hospital. Let's get reading!
To coincide with Book Week Scotland we are launching READATHON with our S2 pupils. This will run until 24th February with our total being announced on World Book Day (2nd March). All pupils have been issued sponsor forms, a bookmark and a letter to take home with all the information. Pupils will set themselves reading targets during their library periods and will be encouraged to challenge themselves. It's not just about books! Pupils are encouraged to read magazines, newspapers (including online articles), audiobooks and eBooks. Pretty much anything goes! Please give whatever you can for this worthy cause. Sponsors can be as little as 10p a book.
More information can be found on the Readathon website. http://www.readathon.org/

February is… LGBT History Month.
LGBT History Month takes place in Scotland every February. It is an opportunity to celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer lives and culture, and to recognise the significant contribution LGBT people have made to our country and the world at large.
It is also an opportunity for learning, discussion and debate around the continued fight for LGBT liberation.
Check out some of LGBT themed books in your school library or ask your librarian for some recommendations.

The English department transformed into Hogwarts to celebrate Book Week with a whole host of magical activities. Staff and pupils decorated the department doors to represent the different houses at Hogwarts – Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin and Ravenclaw. We also had our own Professor McGonagall (Mrs Russell), Head master Dumbledore (Mr Bone) and even a Dementor (PC Collins)!
To celebrate Book Week Scotland the art department illustrated ‘The Hunger Games’ books. Pupils had to choose a word or phrase from the books and illustrate it using their imagination. Pupils had freedom to use any material they found suitable.
