Here is a list of activities that will take place in various departments:
- Modern Languages
Match the teacher with their favourite book, “Nourish version”.
Every teacher picked up a book which is related to this year theme, and students from S1, S2 and S3 will have to match the right book to the right teacher.
During the whole week there will be focus on “Health and food” during the Physical Education classes because food is an important fuel for our body and we need to know how to use it properly.
Different activities will be carried out during S2 classes: planning a cooking activity requires very precise timing and measuring. Problems relating to preparation of a complicated plate, or evaluating the sugar level in various famous chain coffees will keep the student busy and in tune with book week while also exercising their logic and numeracy skills.
A wealth of activities will be held for classes S1-3: describing sweets using poetry and blackout poetry session on recipes, analysis of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, creation of a food blog with recipe (and sharing of the cake!) and personal writing on food memories.
- Social Subjects
Started before hand and still ongoing, the department started a Reading Challenge related to the subjects and all S1 classes are happily participating. They read and do tests on the books using the Accelerated Reader program, and all the students are happily participating to it.
Students will be creating their favourite book website, highlighting genre, Author biography and book rating.
They will be voicing and editing a book podcast related to Book Week Scotland theme!
The Library is even busier than usual!
First of all, we will decorate the whole room as a famous literary factory packed full of all things sweet. Can you guess what it will be?
We also organised a literary staff bake off: everybody will be baking their favourite cake inspired by a book they read and liked, talking about it with other staff members during an extended lunch break (Woohoo! and of course there will be a tasting session! and it will be Friday!).
S1-S2 pupils are also participating in a "Golden Ticket" raffle for which they can win fabulous (edible) prizes.
And we are also decorating some of the teachers doors with book themed adornments, thanks to some very dedicated library helpers from S1 and S2! And probably even more going on! But really, this is a blog, not a book!
Stay tuned for more pictures and info on the events!
