· achieve the highest possible levels of literacy, numeracy and cognitive skills;
· develop skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work;
· develop their knowledge and understanding of society, the world and Scotland's place in it;
· experience challenge and success so that they can develop well-informed views and act responsibly.

Assessment
A range of assessment approaches will be used to reflect the breadth, challenge and application of learning and the wide range of knowledge and understanding, skills, attributes and capabilities, which are being developed in the broad general education from S1-S3. Assessment is fit for purpose and teachers gather a range of evidence to reflect the kind of learning taking place.

Mathematics National 4 and National 5
The majority of pupils have been working through Curriculum for Excellence level 3, with some pupils working through level 2, in preparation for National 4 and National 5 Maths. Most classes are now working on some level 4 work and a decision as to which National award they will be presented for will take place after an assessment in early May.
