![]() On Wednesday 20th June, a small group of pupils were allowed on to the site of GE Caledonian and given a tour of their facilities. After a short introduction, the pupils were split into groups of 4 and then shown how GE Caledonian maintains and repairs aircraft engines. They were shown how the engines were taken apart and then every single piece, no matter how small, is inspected before being repaired or replaced. Several pupils were given to chance to hold pieces of engine worth hundreds of pounds, and my group were shown a single engine part that costs around £800 000! Next on the tour was a viewing of the Turbine test room, where the engines are checked before being put back onto planes. Unfortunately there were no tests scheduled for the day we were visiting, but it was all incredibly interesting. Many thanks to GE Caledonian for showing us what happens in their buildings and we look forward to them visiting us next year.
