Prestwick Academy 4 v 0 Cumnock Academy (Ayr and District Cup Final)

Prestwick ran out comfortable winners in the Ayr and District League Cup final to give them their second trophy of the year after winning the league with a 100% win record. The game started with Cumnock having the better of the possession with the strong wind at their backs but rarely threatened the Prestwick goal. Prestwick had the chance to take the lead after good play down the right flank saw Grant Richmond find Robbie Swift in the box who was then bundled over for a penalty. Swift took only for the Cumnock goalie to make a good save diving to his left hand side. Robbie didn't have to wait long to put the miss out of his mind. After Richmond lobbing the keeper the wind held the ball to stop it going over the line but Swift beat the keeper to the ball and nodded in from close range. Prestwick now in the ascendency, were creating more chances and after a good team move starting in the right back position and eventually ending up in a corner after a blocked cross from the left wing. Jordan Lusk put a corner into the near post and Ryan Turkington arrived to flick the ball home with the outside of his right foot.
Into the second half and Prestwick, now with the wind at their back, were more dominant. Robbie Swift got his second of the game when after Cumnock failed to clear and a quick through ball was hammered past the keeper from 15 yards. Cumnock showed signs of a fight back and were unlucky not to get a goal back after a free kick crossed in behind the Prestwick defence was brought down and volleyed past Ben McCartney only to come back off the crossbar and be cleared to safety. Lewis Hughes finished off the tie after coming on as sub when a strong run from Connor Mulgrew down the left wing saw his shot come back off the far post and fall kindly for Hughes to place the ball past the defenders on the line from 12 yards.

Prestwick looked the better team as the game progressed, good wide play and a cross entered the box and Grant Richmond was there to finish.
Prestwick were quick to pounce on the Cumnock mistakes and Joe Evans made a lovely run and cut it back for Jordan Lusk was there to strike the ball in the corner leaving the keeper with no chance.
Cumnock centre back flew into a challange on Taylor Jamieson and a free kick was given. Reece Mclean stepped up to take the free kick and this resulted in the ball going over the keeper but under the cross bar and it was 3-0.
Cumnock were getting sloppy and as the break was near Prestwick made it 4-0 with a corner and Ryan Turkington made a run to the front post and jumped higher than his marker to head it home.
Cumnock startered the second half the better team but Prestwick defended well during this period. The game went a bit flat but Prestwick were paitent and got the 5th through a long ball over the top for Jack to run onto it and sloted in past the keeper from a distance. Grant Richmond done well to keep it in and passed the ball to Joe Evans who ran passed a man on the by line and played the ball square to Ryan Turkington to score his second of the afternoon and Prestwicks 6th.
